Pure Storage

Updated: Apr 24, 2023

What is Pure Storage?

Pure Storage is a provider of enterprise data flash storage solutions designed to substitute for electromechanical disk arrays. As data becomes a more valuable asset to companies, emphasis on enterprise storage has increased. Pure Storage is considered to be a key player in the solid-state storage array market and aims to provide a seamless transition from alternate storage methods. Benefits of solid-state arrays include reduced IT project risk, optimized costs, better integration features and lower latency.

Pure Storage products have been designed to provide companies with "flash for the price of disk" by using comparable features and pricing. Incorporated into their end-to-end product suite, Pure Data-Centric Architecture, Pure Storage solutions can help with consolidating applications, simplifying integration, providing real-time data streams, and increasing productivity.

Uses for the Pure Storage suite of products include consolidating data silos, creating a unified platform for sharing analytics, accelerating the continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline and enabling the automation of multi-cloud environments.

Key products

Flasharray is the solution from Pure Storage created to compete with traditional rotating disk arrays. According to the Pure Storage website, it is observed to consume 20% of the power and space of alternate arrays and is utilized for accelerating applications such as server virtualization, database systems and cloud computing.

Pure Storage released their newest model in the unified storage called FlashArray

//XL. The new FlashArray //XL comes in two sizes and top out the FlashArray lineup. The //XL130 supports up to 968TB of raw capacity and the //XL170 supports up to 1.4PB of raw capacity.

For the new //XL models, Pure has moved to the 5U chassis design supported four power supplies that operate in a N+2 configuration. The new 5U chassis now supports 40 drive slows for both the DFM/DFMD/DMM storage. This equates to a 20% more efficiency savings for rack density while providing up to 68% more capacity as compared to the //X90.

Flashblade is an all-flash storage product made to handle high-performance workloads, drive productivity and protect data.

Revealed at Pure//Accelerate techfest22, the Pure Storage FlashBlade//S family of products offers a new modular architecture built on co-designed hardware and software. The platform leverages a “nearly unlimited scalable metadata architecture” by offering more than twice the density, performance, and power efficiency of the previous generation FlashBlade. The flexible design allows the platform to evolve with customer requirements as new technologies mature over time.

Flashstack is a flexible converged infrastructure solution that supports critical enterprise applications and provides a platform for cloud-based management. As reported by Pure Storage, Flashstack can lower deployment times, deployment risk and IT costs.

FlashStack, introduced in 2014, combines Pure Storage all-flash arrays and Cisco Systems compute networking infrastructure in pretested, validated reference architectures to address common enterprise workloads. The new FlashStack as-a-Service will give customers a subscription alternative based on consumption, with performance and capacity service-level agreements, proactive monitoring and nondisruptive upgrades.

FlashStack as-a-Service is a "meet-in-the-channel" option uniting Cisco Plus Hybrid Cloud compute and networking and Pure as-a-Service storage. Partners offer flexible purchase choices for compute and networking, and Pure provides storage and metering in the pay-as-you-go model

AIRI is an AI-capable infrastructure that can be scaled to meet any business needs or future innovation.

Pure Storage AIRI is an AI-ready infrastructure that combines Pure Storage FlashBlade NAS and Nvidia DGX-1 supercomputers.

Sold as an integrated product, AIRI includes a 15-blade FlashBlade array that ingests data from four DGX-1 devices. The blades are available in 8 TB, 17 TB and 52 TB capacities. A pair of 100 gigabit Ethernet remote direct memory access switches (by Arista Networks or Cisco) connects FlashBlade and DGX-1 appliances.

Pure1 is a cloud-based management platform that gives storage administrators the ability to monitor and manage their Pure Storage arrays remotely through a web browser. Included in this platform are predictive analytics features to help administrators anticipate future consolidation and project capacity requirements.

Evergreen Storage Service (ES2) is an OPEX storage-as-a-service (STaas) for private and hybrid clouds.

Pure Storage's subscription service for storage hardware and software is rebranding under the name Evergreen, and has added a tier enabling customers to choose a lease-to-own model for storage.

Pure also rebranded its two existing subscriptions. Evergreen Forever, previously known as Evergreen Gold, offers a traditional customer-owned appliance and software subscription model incorporating contractual refreshes. Evergreen One, previously known as Pure as-a-Service, provides a cloudlike SaaS experience for customers that want to pay on demand for hardware and services without owning them. These products provide the same services and features as before.
